Summary: The Certificate in Tackling and Preventing Domestic Abuse is a national recognised qualification and has been endorsed by the Home Office as suitable for the Independent Domestic Violence Advocate (IDVA) role.

National recognised qualification: 24 Credits

Duration: 10 days training. PLEASE NOTE THAT UNITS 1 & 4 WILL BE HELD IN MANCHESTER AT LUTHER KING HOUSE AND UNITS 2 AND 3 WILL BE DELIVERED VIA ZOOM.

Training session dates
• Unit 1 - 14th-16th November 2022, 10am-4pm
• Unit 2 - 13th & 14th December 2022, 10am-4pm
• Unit 3 - 10th-12th January 2023, 10am-4pm
• Unit 4 - 7th & 8th February 2023, 10am-4pm

What does the course cover?
The Certificate comprises four units:
• Understanding domestic and sexual abuse/violence within a social and historical context
• Understanding child protection in the context of domestic and sexual abuse/violence
• The role of the domestic and sexual abuse/violence practitioner
• Domestic and sexual abuse/violence partnerships and a coordinated community response

The Certificate course is adaptable and accommodates for differences in service provision or legislation in different localities.

Who is this training suitable for?
To undertake the Certificate, you are required to be in a paid or voluntary role with at least 6 months of experience working with survivors in the domestic and sexual abuse/violence sector.

As part of the assessments for the Awarding body, Units 1 and 2 also require a workplace observation to be carried out involving direct work with survivors of domestic abuse. We are happy to discuss this prior to your booking should you require.

It is suitable for:
• Refuge workers (including managers)
• Independent Domestic Violence Advocates (IDVAs)
• Family workers
• Children workers
• Outreach workers.

The course is particularly suitable if you have worked in the sector for some years and now wish to have your knowledge and expertise recognised by a formal qualification.

It is also appropriate for those who have completed the Award in Tackling and Preventing Domestic Violence/Abuse and wish to progress further.

Registering your qualification
Once you have achieved the Certificate, you will have the choice of joining our Register of Practitioners as a Registered Domestic Abuse Prevention Advocate (R- DAPA) .

Alternatively you can register using your current professional title e.g Registered Domestic Abuse Children’s Advocate (R-DACA) or Registered Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (R-IDVA).

The Certificate also qualifies you to enrol for the Diploma in Tackling Domestic Abuse – the highest level of qualification delivered in the sector.
